Special Honors to This Year's Award Winners

Omar Batiste The Gordon Ekvall Tracie Award is given to an ethnic performing artist who has made significant contributions to the development and presentation of the traditional arts in our community.

This year we honor Omar Batiste. Omar's personal objective: To improve personal contributions to positive human expression through Dance, Art, Music, Literature, Languages and socio-economic endeavors that aid global balance and compatibility. Omar has accomplished his objective, sharing his wonderful spirit and knowledge of Greek, Balkan, Middle Eastern cultures across the Northwest and the world.

The Aspasia Phoutrides Pulakis Award is given annually to an individual who has contributed significantly to a Northwest ethnic community.

This year we have two honorees, Bettie Sing Luke & Lora Chiorah Dye.

Bettie Sing Luke Bettie Sing Luke, Chinese American, was born and raised in Seattle. Bettie has been an educational activist in diversity training and community organizing for three decades. As a professional educator and as a volunteer community activist, Bettie has supported social justice issues on behalf of many ethnic communities in the Northwest.

Lora Chiorah Dye, a native of Zimbabwe, is a friend to all, a dancer, and "bridge builder". She has worked with numerous individuals and organizations in the Northwest and beyond. Lora has helped launch many careers in the field of African music and dance and is recognized as a cultural ambassador.

From I-5 Heading South
Take North 85th St. Exit. Head West on 85th. Proceed about 3 ½ miles to 32nd Ave NW. Turn Left. Continue on 32nd Ave NW until you reach NW 68th Street. Turn Right. The Museum parking lot will be to the right.

From I-5 Heading North
Take the NE 45th Street/University of Washington Exit. Stay in the left lane. Turn Left at the light onto NE 45th St. Continue on 45th St. which jogs into Midvale Place N., winds down the hill and becomes NW Market Street. Continue West on NW Market Street until you come to 32nd Ave. NW. Turn Right on 32nd Ave NW continue until you reach NW 68th. Turn Right on NW 68th. The entrance to the Museum Parking Lot is on the right.
