In the first half hour Otilia Baraboi\, Executive Director at American Romanian Cultural Society invites us to a private screening of “Letter of Forgiveness\,” a short movie directed by Alina Serban. In the second part of the event we welcome our guest speakers special guest speakers Dr. Margareta (Magda) Matache\, Dr. Marius Turda\, and Adrian Nicolae Furtuna MA in Advanced Sociological Research (Guest speakers bios will be presented in Discussion). \nThe conversation is moderated by Mihaela Campion\, clinical psychotherapist\, and Creative visionary of ARCHER and Andreea Mottram ARCHER co-founder. \nThe Roma had been enslaved for five centuries in Wallachia and Moldova. Their freedom came 165 years ago\, but public recognition of their loss\, suffering\, and trauma remains patchy to this day. In this discussion\, panelists Elizabeth Löwe Hunter (Ph.D. Candidate\, African American Studies\, UC Berkeley)\, Jasmine Kelekay (Ph.D. candidate\, Sociology\, UC Santa Barbara)\, and Susani Mahadura (journalist and filmmaker)\, with moderator and ASF Fellow Ethelene Whitmire (Professor/Chair\, Department of Afro-American Studies\, University of Wisconsin – Madison) will explore issues related to the present-day realities of ethnic and national belonging in the Nordic countries. \nMore details will be added closer to the date; please check back to this page for more details. SUMMARY:Experimental Selfies: Students Respond to Edvard Munch’s Photography
DESCRIPTION:Norway’s most famous painter\, Edvard Munch\, also experimented with photography. Exploiting faulty camera practices like light leaks and double exposures\, he created revealing self-portraits that documented his life while exploring the boundaries of this new art medium.\nNow\, over a century later\, the National Nordic Museum has partnered with four Seattle high schools in this virtual exhibition that asks AP Photography students to respond to Munch’s work with their own self-portraits. Students took a virtual tour of The Experimental Self: Edvard Munch’s Photography\, on view at the Museum through January\, with curator Pat Berman.
