SUMMARY:Finding Friluftsliv Anywhere and Anytime
DESCRIPTION:Friluftsliv” (“open air life”) is a Nordic concept gaining currency during the COVID-19 pandemic. Friluftsliv\, which encourages time spent outdoors\, is an antidote to the countless hours spent indoors teleworking and socializing on video conferencing platforms. However\, due to its myriad benefits\, friluftsliv merits consideration for complete integration into our daily lives long after the threat of COVID-19 subsides. What are the origins and basic tenets of this philosophy? How can we adopt this lifestyle in the short and long term? \nLeslie Anderson\, Director of Collections\, Exhibitions\, and Programs at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle\, and Petra Hilleberg\, the President and CEO of Hilleberg the Tentmaker\, come together for this RevelEleven event to teach us about Friluftsliv. \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/finding-friluftsliv-anywhere-and-anytime-tickets-136363694481

SUMMARY:Experimental Selfies: Students Respond to Edvard Munch’s Photography
DESCRIPTION:Norway’s most famous painter\, Edvard Munch\, also experimented with photography. Exploiting faulty camera practices like light leaks and double exposures\, he created revealing self-portraits that documented his life while exploring the boundaries of this new art medium.\nNow\, over a century later\, the National Nordic Museum has partnered with four Seattle high schools in this virtual exhibition that asks AP Photography students to respond to Munch’s work with their own self-portraits. Students took a virtual tour of The Experimental Self: Edvard Munch’s Photography\, on view at the Museum through January\, with curator Pat Berman. Then\, as part of their advanced placement studies\, they created portraits that responded to Munch’s process and self exploration. \nhttps://www.nordicmuseum.org/exhibition/experimentalselfies

SUMMARY:Seattle Turkish Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Seattle Turkish Film Festival returns in 2020 with four feature films — including personal tales of forbidden love affairs in Love\, Spells and All That (Aşk\, Büyü\, vs.) and domestic conflict in Chronology (Kronoloji). Light is cast upon larger Turkish society in Queen Lear (Kraliçe Lear)\, which follows a handful of peasant women in southern Turkey who take their theater group on the road\, and Ovacik\, which portrays the heartfelt community-building efforts of a mayor in a small Kurdish-Alevi town. A robust short film program consisting of ten films includes three Grand Jury favorites and\, with its nearly three-hour runtime\, offers a varied and expansive view of the region. Most screenings will be followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with filmmakers. \nhttps://nwfilmforum.org/events/seattle-turkish-film-festival-2020-online/

SUMMARY:SEATTLE TURKISH FILM FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:What a year it has been! Sure\, a lot of things have changed in 2020\, but we really hope that your love and support for Turkish films (and our festival) are still intact. As the countdown begins for the end of this historic year\, we would like to invite you to join us for the ONLINE EDITION of the 8th Seattle Turkish Film Festival (Dec 5th-12th\, 2020). This year\, we are teaming up with Northwest Film Forum\, Seattle’s community-minded film center which supports independent movies. \nWhile we won’t be able to see each other in person\, being online has its perks too. You will get to enjoy our carefully curated festival program from the comfort of your home\, for a FULL week. When you buy a ticket or a pass\, you can watch the movies at your convenience and every movie will be available for 24 hours after you have started viewing. We also have pre-recorded interviews with the directors for you to enjoy after the movies. For shorts selection\, there will be a live Q&A via Facebook. Last but not least\, the STFF 2020 ONLINE EDITION will be accessible throughout the US\, so please spread the word to your friends and family living in other parts of the country.
