DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation about dor\, a Romanian word that some find untranslatable\, and the complex relationships it acquires in exilic relations. What does dor carry as baggage? How does dor change when looking back towards a homeland in an Ovidian gaze? Is there an intentionality in exilic dor that shapes the various Romanian diaspora groups? Why and how do we re-cognize ourselves in longing? DESCRIPTION:Norwegian Ladies Chorus of Seattle: Christmas Concert December 5\, 2021 at 3:00pm\nThe Norwegian Ladies Chorus of Seattle invites you to join them for their annual Christmas Concert on December 5\,2021 at 3:00 pm. This year’s concert will be held in person in the newly remodeled sanctuary of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church\, located at 2400 NW 85th Street in Ballard. The chorus will perform under the direction of our new director\, Joseph To. They will be accompanied on the piano by Zhanhong Kuang. The program will include many Scandinavian Christmas favorites\, as well as some new pieces. Director emeritus Ellie Kok will make a special appearance to direct us on one number\, and there will also be guest artists. No NLC Christmas concert would be complete without Ragnhild Park reading the Julevangeliet\, and of course the audience will be invited to join us in Glade Jul at the conclusion of the concert. Traditional Scandinavian desserts and beverages will be available in the social hour after the concert. In order to protect our community\, guests over the age of 5 will be asked to wear masks throughout the concert. Attendees over the age of 12 must provide proof of vaccination. Attendees must provide a phone number or email address at entry for contact tracing.

What is it that women fiction writers reveal to us about their Polish American characters? What kind of immigrant or ethnic woman appears in their fiction and what do we learn about constructing ethnic and gender identity while drawing from both worlds: the old world of Polish traditions and the new world of the American present? DESCRIPTION:On this Veterans Day\, we salute all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces\, especially our Chinese American WWII veterans. \nNearly 20\,000 Chinese Americans served during World War II in every theater and every branch of the United States Armed Forces. Despite barriers to citizenship and equality\, they served with dignity and honor while facing discrimination and prejudice at home and in the military. \nC.A.C.A. Seattle and the Seattle Regional Chinese American World War II Veterans Congressional Gold Medal Committee will be celebrating our Chinese American WWII Veterans this Saturday\, November 13\, 2021 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue\, WA. Due to local health policies and limited seating\, this event is sold out. \nThis event honoring the living and deceased Chinese American WWII Veterans from Washington State with the presentation of the United States Congressional Gold Medal\, the highest civilian award. Each living veteran or veteran’s family representative will be presented a bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal\, a gift from the Chinese American Citizens Alliance and American Legion Cathay Post #186. \nFive Seattle area living veterans were honored in March in a virtual ceremony. Three of the living veterans: Gene Moy (age 104)\, William Chin (age 96)\, and Lip Mar (age 94) will participate in the medal presentation ceremony. Two living veterans Calvin Fung (age 97) and Abraham Goo (age 96) will view the event virtually. An additional 128 veterans will be honored. DESCRIPTION:Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski \nThe fall bazaar is returning to the Polish Cultural Center at its usual first weekend of November\, organized as usual by the Polish Women’s Club. The ladies are playing it safe due to the pandemic and this year the Polish bazaar will last only one day\, instead of the usual two.\nMerchandise: booths with amber and jewelry\, arts and crafts\, Polish crystals and Boleslawiec pottery as well as booths by local Polish organizations. You can also buy Christmas ornaments and wafers (oplatki)\, as well as paczki\, pastries and homemade cakes. Frozen pierogi will be available as usual.\nFood: delicious dinners of pickle soup\, borscht\, pierogi\, Polish sausage\, and cabbage rolls served all day. DESCRIPTION:Fall has arrived\, and that means its time for the annual Leif Erikson Lodge Bazaar! In this\, the 115th edition\, we will be bringing back many of your favorites while adapting to the current public health situation. Here is what you can expect at this year’s Bazaar: \nGolden Raffle tickets were mailed in mid-September\, please send yours in to the office! If you did not receive tickets\, and would like to enter the raffle\, please call the office or stop by during office hours. $20 per ticket\, drawings to be held on Sunday October 24th @ 4pm.  \nOnline Auction will be held via the Bidding Owl website. Come check out all the great items\, which you can bid on or choose to “buy now”.  Auction opens on October 9th and closes on Saturday October 23rd.  \nNorwegian Food To Go will also be sold through the Bidding Owl Website. Our main dish of meatballs with gravy\, potatoes\, carrots\, rolls\, cucumber salad and lingonberry sauce is available for $20. You can also order lefse\, rømmegrøt\,  krumkake\, bløtkake and more! Pickup your order in the LEL garage on Saturday\, October 23rd from 1-4 pm. Orders will be accepted form October 9th-19th.  \n​ \nMange takk to all the volunteers and community partners helping make this event happen\, including Skål Beer Hall\, Scandinavian Specialties and Bien Bakeri.
